Historical Sites
Lipa City is also a home to several historical sites. The City boasts of its well-preserved spots and landmarks which remain proofs of a great history, rich culture and traditions of Lipenos. The following are among the city’s historical sites:
San Sebastian Cathedral
San Sebastian Cathedral is located at the heart of Lipa City poblacion. The church was built in 1895 by Augustinian Friar named Fr. Benito Varas. The paintings since its first construction remains up to date. The church is also the seat of Archdiocese of Lipa.
Casa de Segunda
One of the oldest houses in Lipa. This is the home of Segunda Katigbak, known to be the first love of Dr. Jose Rizal. It is accredited by the National Historical Commission as another historical site.
Markers of the Burial Grounds of Japanese Massacre
Markers of the Burial Grounds of Japanese Massacre is located at Barangay Lumbang, Lipa City. This signify the heroic deeds of Lipenos during the Japanese invasion.
Museo ng Katipunan
Located at Barangay Bulaklakan, Lipa City. This museum houses the original flag with blood stains of the Katipuneros during the Philippine Revolution.
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church
This church gained its popularity for its “Miraculous Shower of Rose Petals” which happened in 1948. Also known for the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as Mary Mediatrix of All Grace to a Carmelite Novice, Teresita Castillo.
Peace Tower
The Peace Tower is located at Barangay Lumbang, Lipa City. This tower was constructed by the Japanese Government in memory of the former campsite of the Japanese soldiers during the World War II.
